Are Masks the Mark of the Beast?
Short answer: No.
Change can be a difficult thing for people. And change often creates a great deal of stress and anxiety. It's understandable that people have found issues with wearing a mask in everyday, normal life since COVID-19 came into our lives. However, some of these issues have stemmed from a lack of knowledge of what the Bible says. I hope that this post will help alleviate at least a little stress and anxiety.
The mark of the beast is a topic that is heavily debated in the Christian community today. Many people believe it will be a microchip, a bar code, a vaccine, etc. Some people even believe that the masks that we wear in public are the mark of the beast. We can not fully know what the mark of the beast will be. At this time, we can only speculate based on the information that we have available to us. While we may not be able to determine what the mark of the beast is at this time, we can by logic determine what isn't the mark of the beast.
The Bible doesn't have a lot to say about the mark of the beast but what information it does give is very telling. Revelation 13:16-17 is where the mark of the beast is mentioned, but I want you to take a few minutes to read all of Revelation 13.
There are several things that must take place before the mark of the beast can be implemented:
The beast (anti-Christ) will not only be known and recognized by the entire world, but the world will worship him as a god. He will be given authority over all the nations and people of the world which means he will be the literal king of the world. Everyone on the planet will worship him except for those whose name is found in the Book of Life.
A second beast (false prophet) will come and be a companion to the anti-Christ. He will compel the entire world to follow the anti-Christ. He will do signs and cause fire to rain down from the sky in front of people. Not only will he do signs like this, but he will also give life to the "image of the beast". It's not for certain yet what the "image of the beast" is but it is speculated by some that it could be a statue. Many Christians are going to be put to death because of this false prophet and image of the beast.
Only after these things will the false prophet or the image of the beast force all the people of the world to "take the mark of the beast" on their right hand or their forehead. And no one will be able to buy or sell without this mark.
So it makes sense that there can not be a "mark of the beast" system until the beast is recognized as the king of the world and worshiped as a god. There is no person that has been recognized yet as such. And obviously, the other things have not occurred yet either.
Aside from all of the evidence provided thus far, there is one huge marker that sets masks apart from the mark of the beast. Masks are to be worn on your face over your nose and mouth. If you are wearing a mask on your right hand or on your forehead, you are wearing it incorrectly and would still be asked to leave a store that requires masks.
Based on all of the Biblical descriptions of the "mark of the beast" and the circumstances surrounding it, we can confidently conclude that masks are not the "mark of the beast".
